State Representatives Kevin Miller and Jeff LaRe have announced that Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed House Bill 111 into law. This bill increases penalties for felony domestic violence offenders.

The legislation, spearheaded by Miller and LaRe, upgrades the penalties from a "low tier" third-degree felony to a "high tier" third-degree felony. Representative Miller stated, "I am committed to fighting for policy that makes our communities safer and stronger. This bill is a step forward in defending survivors of domestic abuse."

Additionally, the new law establishes a presumption favoring a prison term for third-degree felony domestic violence offenses when the offender knew the victim was pregnant at the time of the crime.

The changes brought by this legislation will become effective in 90 days.
