City of New Albany issued the following announcement on March 14.
work began on the reconstruction and widening of Jug Street between Beech Rd. and Harrison Rd. Initial work includes the construction of a future shared use path/temporary pavement on the north side of existing Jug Street between Beech Rd. and Harrison Rd. Jug Street in this area will be reconstructed to a curbed three-lane roadway with shared use paths, lighting, and landscaping.
The scheduled project timeline is outlined below. The schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.
April
Around April 11, Jug St. will become one way eastbound between Beech Rd. and Harrison Rd. Eastbound Jug Street traffic will be maintained on temporary pavement and westbound traffic will be detoured. Signage will be in place to direct motorists accordingly. This will allow for the reconstruction and widening of Jug Street in this area as well as the construction of a roundabout at the Jug Street/Harrison Road intersect
May
Around May 2, work will commence to construct a sanitary sewer within Jug Street west of Beech Road. This will require the closure of Jug Street between Central College Road and Beech Road to through traffic. Local traffic will be maintained. Signage will be in place to direct motorists accordingly. This work will continue until approximately August 1. The roadway pavement will be reconstructed during this process.
June
From approximately June 24 through July 9, Harrison Rd. will close just south of Jug Street to allow for completion of construction of the roundabout.
July
From approximately July 11 to August 1, traffic on Beech Rd. will be unable to turn west onto Jug St. as the Jug/Beech intersection will be widened/reconstructed during this three-week period. Additionally, southbound Beech Rd. will be closed just north of Jug Street. Signage will be in place to direct motorists accordingly.
August
On or around August 1, Jug Street roadway construction between Beech Rd. and Harrison Rd. will be completed and traffic will be placed on the newly constructed three-lane roadway. Click here to see a graphic of the proposed roadway.
From August 1 through June 2023, sanitary sewer installation, shared use path, lighting and landscaping work will occur outside of the Jug Street roadway limits between Beech Rd. and Harrison Rd.
