DENISON UNIVERSITY: Faculty member selected to fellowship

Networking

Denison University issued the following announcement on Nov. 20.

Gregory Lott, assistant athletics director, and assistant professor of Health, Exercise and Sport Studies, was recently selected to be a fellow in the American Kinesiology Association’s Leadership Institute.

The Leadership Institute utilizes a mentoring model to provide training and networking for new department chairs, associate chairs, and emerging faculty leaders in the discipline. This 12-month program includes in-person, group sessions, webinars with other fellows and a facilitator to discuss a leadership topic, and one-on-one discussions with a senior mentor. Mentors are assigned in consultation with each fellow. In addition, key resource materials will be provided.

“I’m honored to have been selected to be part of the 2022 cohort. This exciting opportunity will improve my understanding of the comprehensive field of Kinesiology and further equip me to help move our Heath, Exercise, and Sport Studies major forward,” says Lott.

Only ten fellows are accepted into the program each year. The 2022 AKA Leadership Institute cohort also includes Rosa Angulo-Barroso, California State University-Northridge; Melissa Bopp, Penn State University; Eadric Bressel, Utah State University; Gregg Davis, University of Louisiana Lafayette; Matthew Ganio, University of Arkansas; Derek Kingsley, Kent State University, Ting Liu, Texas State University; Joel Martin, George Mason University; Jenny O, California State University-East Bay; and Tao Zhang, University of North Texas. The American Kinesiology Association (AKA) promotes and enhances kinesiology as a unified field of study and advances its many applications. AKA does this by advocating for kinesiology at national and international levels, and by supporting member departments through educational opportunities and resource materials, including an annual workshop for university administrators in kinesiology. This annual AKA Leadership Workshop is widely regarded as the nation’s premiere conference for kinesiology department chairs, deans, and faculty who assist with the administration of kinesiology programs.
